Where to Shop this Weekend: Current Boutique in Old Town, Alexandria and Clarendon, VA

I was unable to attend the grand opening of Current Boutique's second location in Old Town. So, I decided to head that way during my lunch break one particularly beautiful afternoon. Expecting a "copy-paste" version of the other quaint (read: small) boutiques in the area, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered and found myself in a very atypically large room with high ceilings and big storefront windows. Surprise number 2: the large room was FULL of merchandise. Current Boutique has by far the largest selection of merchandise I have come across in the area. What a great first impression!

If you are looking for it, you will find it at Current. Ikat print is everywhere right now. Guess what? It's at Current too. And hasn't everyone dreamed of a custom-made fur coat from Hong Kong? Okay, maybe not everyone but I certainly have! That same day I was feeling a little out of sorts, however. So, my money was spent on several shapeless black dresses and a Marc Jacobs hoodie. Some people indulge in comfort food. I indulge in comfort clothes. Current Boutique obliged.

When I popped in with my best friend to get these pictures a few weeks later, she purchased this adorable plaid top and the layered silver necklace on the right. Speaking of Current's jewelry, all of it is handpicked and made by local designers. Just another great way to support your local economy!

Carmen, the owner of Current Boutique, "is very active in the DC fashion community participating in organizations and functions like DC Fashionistas and Crystal Couture. Carmen and Current Boutique have also given back to the local community by donating literally thousands of dollars worth of clothing and accessories to Goodwill, Covenant House, the Woman's Junior League and numerous local schools. Carmen and Current Boutique have also actively supported Fashion Fights Poverty and the scholarship fund of the DC Fashionistas group, a competitive award for aspiring young designers."

All in all, my experiences with Current have been nothing but positive. Consignment shopping isn't always convenient when you are shopping for a specific item. However, I would come close to guaranteeing that, considering the incredible selection and quality of the merchandise at Current, you will find what you need (or want) every single time.

If for no other reason, you should stop by to admire this Badgley Mischka stunner. And in my own humble opinion, the blue embroidered dress would be pretty perfect for wandering around the tidal basin and checking out the cherry blossoms this weekend!

Me: What are you three wardrobe must-haves?
Carmen: Accessories! A fantastic clutch, a bold cocktail ring and nude pumps!

If you or someone you know is interested in consigning with Current Boutique, there is no need to make an appointment. Simply drop by with in-season clothing only and the talented staff will be on hand to help. The seasons are as follows: Fall: August 15 – October 15; Winter: October 15 – February 15; Spring: February 15 – May 15; Summer: May 15 – August 15.

I'm not usually a huge fan of consignment shopping, because it feels like shops never carry anything above a size 8. However, Current carries a broader range of sizes: I've seen XLs and 14's in clothes and size 10 shoes as well. It's definitely wort a gander if you're in the area!

There are literally NO consignment shops near where I live, and I cannot stand it! Consignment shops are amazing - case in point...this one! I would so spend every weekend broswing this store if it was closer to me!!

I absolutely adore consignment shops. For me, it's where I go when I want to treat myself--like the upscale version of Thrifting. If I ever visit DC I'll be sure to check this one out!
